Project 3 Reflection
This semester, I have learned a lot about research in that it is much more than asking and looking for an answer to a question. Research is a process of inquiry and involves asking many questions, analyzing, adjusting, asking questions again, and analyzing again. There is no one clear path to research and no right or wrong method of approaching. Research can be used in many different contexts, from an academic thesis to simply looking for the answer to something. Regardless, it involves asking a question (or many!) and seeking out an answer, narrowing out results or adjusting the question itself.
I’ve enjoyed research this semester particularly because of my research topic itself. I’ve really grown fond of my research process, and seeing all my assignments and edits on my Weebly site has been really cool in seeing how my research topic shifted and narrowed as I began working on it this semester. I have certainly learned a lot about my topic, regarding both polio and covid, and overall it’s also interesting to see how we can look back at historical events and discover what things we can learn about them. With my topic, through breaking down the sociopolitical contexts and vaccination responses, I could still see how deeply intertwined all three areas are, and I enjoyed seeing and making connections between the three as I researched further into the topic.
What I’ve learned about myself as a researcher is that I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I am not one to view research and writing papers as something I would look forward to, but I surprisingly found myself having little aversion to writing my assignments and actually being quite eager to write my research arcs and put my draft together. Definitely what I like the most is seeing the progress I’ve made, and I am really happy with the work that I did in this class.
